Day 1: Depart Vancouver for your flight to Los Angeles to connect to your flight to Sydney on Qantas Airways.
Day 2: Cross the International Dateline. Lose a day which you will regain on the return trip.
Day 3. Arrive in Sydney. G'day welcome to Australia. You will be met by your tour director and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is free. This evening welcome drinks with your guide and fellow passengers ( escorted option only).
Day 4. Sydney sightseeing. A morning guided walking tour of the historic Rocks area, Opera House and Botanic Gardens. Cruise across the harbour to Manly for champagne and snacks before travelling by 4WD to the northern beaches and Ku-ring-gai National Park. BL
Day 5. Sail Sydney. This morning depart on a 2 hour sailing experience of Sydney Harbour. With expert skippers, this is truly a great way to see Sydney Harbour. The remainder of the day is free. Tonight enjoy dinner and an opera house performance. BD
Day 6. Sydney to Melbourne. Depart Sydney and fly to Melbourne. The afternoon is free to enjoy this cosmopolitan city. Melbourne has some of the best shopping in Australia, beautiful parks and gardens to explore; or try your luck at the casino. This evening enjoy dinner on the Colonial Tram Car Restaurant. BD
Day 7. Great Ocean Road. Today your expert guide will share with you his 'Secrets of the Great Ocean Road'. Look for koalas in the natural environment, drive through national parks and learn of the aboriginal heritage of the area. This evening enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Lorne. BD
Day 8. Great Ocean Road. Load your camera as we continue the journey along the Great Ocean Road. Visit the famous Twelve Apostles, the spectacular Shipwreck Coast and Loch Ard Gorge. At the seaside village of Port Campbell visit London Bridge before returning to Melbourne. BL
Day 9. Melbourne to Ayers Rock. Transfer to the airport for a morning flight to Ayers Rock. This afternoon explore the Olgas with your local guide. We'll watch the colours of the rock change as the sun sets. B
Day 10. Ayers Rock. This morning we travel by 4WD to a private wilderness location for breakfast with magnificent views of Uluru & Kata Tjuta. At lunchtime enjoy a one hour educational talk on “The Predators of the Red Centre” and learn why these predators are not always something to fear. At this evenings Sounds of Silence dinner watch the sun set over the rock and eat an amazing meal under the stars. BD
Day 11. Ayers Rock to Port Douglas. This morning embark on a “Walkabout” with an aboriginal guide to learn about customs and ancient skills of the Anangu people. After the tour we depart Ayers Rock and fly to Cairns and transfer to Port Douglas. B
Day 12. Great Barrier Reef. Today you will depart Port Douglas
with Quicksilver on a luxury small vessel to the Great Barrier Reef; you will experience 3 different dive/snorkel sites where you will see beautiful coral and a variety of marine life. BL
Day 13. Daintree and Cape Tribulation. It's an early start this morning to spot crocodiles, tree snakes and beautiful birds in the Daintree. After breakfast, cruise along the river and a walk along the beach at Cape Tribulation. Return to Port Douglas by lunchtime and have the rest of the day free. Day 4: Sydney Sightseeing. Experience the beauty of Sydney on a guided walking tour around the historic Rocks, Circular Quay, the Opera House and Botanical Gardens. Travel by 4WD to Watson's Bay for a picnic lunch of Doyle's famous fish and chips. After lunch enjoy a yacht cruise around Sydney Harbour. BL
Day 5: Sydney to the Blue Mountains. Travel to Blue Mountains National Park today with your expert guide and 4WD vehicle. Depart Sydney and enter the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park to experience outstanding lookouts before continuing down into a hidden valley to observe kangaroos and other unique wildlife in the Australian Bush. Within the beautiful valley take time to enjoy a traditional “Aussie” morning tea of damper with lashings of golden syrup, tea or coffee. Continuing to the top of the range you make a visit to an ancient Aboriginal site where your guide explains the culture and history of the Dharug tribe who once inhabited this region. Beneath the canopy of the trees you start lunch with a cheese platter and a glass of Australian champagne, followed by a delicious barbecue including steaks, salads, and fresh bread. A selection of Australian wines also accompanys the meal. After lunch continue to explore this beautiful wilderness region arriving at the Three Sisters overlooking the Jamieson Valley before returning to Sydney. BL
Day 6: Sydney to Ayers Rock. Depart your hotel by private car to the airport this morning for your flight to Ayers Rock. Here you will stay at Ayers Rock's premier resort - Sails in the Desert for 2 nights. This afternoon travel in a small group to discover the magnificence of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Your guide will walk you through Olga Gorge describing the Geology and Aboriginal Plant use in the area. Leaving the rocky moonscape of Olga Gorge, the sky blue deepens and the great domes of the Olgas flush red as the tour retires to the sunset viewing area at Yulara ( Ayers Rock). Celebrate the fantastic colour changes wrought by the sunset with the complimentary champagne. Sit back and absorb the desert solitude or relax and chat to your guide about Australia's red centre. The spectacle fades as you return to Yulara beneath a sky of brilliant stars.
Day 7: Ayers Rock. An early start this morning, join your small group tour and witness the spectacular sunrise at Uluru ( Ayers Rock) without rushing, all the while absorbing an exposition of Uluru's natural history and deep significance to the Anangu people. Short walks will bring you close to this wonderful and powerful place, viewing rock art, waterholes and appreciating the unique flora and fauna of Uluru. The final step is to the Uluru and Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Return to the resort and meet the Predators of the Red Centre. This showcase introduces you to snakes and lizards that not only display unique scientific characteristics, but animals that are also significant to the Anangu people and their creation time stories. Expert animal handlers will leave you with a greater understanding of why these predators are not always something to fear!
Enjoy a few hours to relax this afternoon, before leaving on the Sounds Of Silence Dinner. Here you will dine under the stars amongst the serenity of the outback desert. Guaranteed to be a highlight of your tour Downunder . D
Day 8: Ayers Rock to Cairns. You will be transferred to the airport for your Qantas flight to Cairns. Upon arrival in Cairns, you will be transferred to your hotel to spend the night. B
Day 9: Cairns to Lizard Island. Depart Cairns this morning for your flight to Lizard island. Australia's most northerly island resort, Lizard is famous for its Barrier Reef location. It provides excellent diving and marlin fishing. The spectacular coral formations and abundant marine life have given this small, exclusive resort a world-wide reputation. Activities include tennis, sailboarding, waterskiing, catamaran sailing, basic fishing gear, dinghies with outboards and snorkelling. The island is truly one of the best islands in Australia. Australia's northernmost resort, Lizard is located right on the Great Barrier Reef, fringed with coral reefs and 24 powdery white beaches. Outstanding in every respect, the unique pleasures of Lizard Island have created an idyllic retreat known as 'one of one'. LD
Day 10 and 11: Lizard island. Two amazing days to enjoy this Island Paradise. Spectacular diving and snorkelling opportunities abound, including the famous Cod Hole. Cross the river by vehicular ferry and travel along the Great Old North Road to the village of St Albans home to Australia's oldest pub. Enjoy a delicious luncheon before venturing through the wetlands environment of the Upper MacDonald River. Pass through the village of Wollombi, established by convicts some 200 years ago, and enter into the Hunter Valley over the Great Dividing Range at Mt View. Visiting some boutique vineyards for wine tastings well off the beaten tourist track gives you the opportunity to sample some of the specialty wines of the Hunter region. This scenic and relaxing day concludes at your Hunter accommodation, late afternoon.
