Hugh McManners is a graduate of Oxford University and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. While in the British Army, he worked as a jungle warfare training instructor in Central America, a combat survival instructor, and an army diving supervisor. His combat experience includes working on long-range, deep-penetration patrols behind enemy lines during the Falklands War and commanding a company in Northern Ireland. He retired from the Army in 1989 as a major.Hugh McManners is the author of The Scars Of War, Falkland Commando, Crowning The Dragon and Dragon. He has contributed to a wide range of publications, including The Daily Telegraph, The Observer, Geographical Magazine, and The Elite, and he edits Command magazine. He also works in television production; recent productions include P-Company and the seven-part series Commando.
