'For Sale: West's Deadly Nuclear Secrets'
'...The Turks and Israelis had planted "moles" in military and academic institutions which handled
nuclear technology. Edmonds says there were several transactions of nuclear material every month,
with the Pakistanis being among the eventual buyers. "The network appeared to be obtaining information
from every nuclear agency in the United States," she said. They were helped, she says, by the high-ranking
State Department official who provided some of their moles - mainly PhD students - with security clearance
to work in sensitive nuclear research facilities. These included the Los Alamos nuclear laboratory in New
Mexico, which is responsible for the security of the US nuclear deterrent. In one conversation Edmonds heard
the official arranging to pick up a $15,000 cash bribe...Edmonds also claims that a number of senior officials
in the Pentagon had helped Israeli and Turkish agents...'

'The FBI has been accused of covering up a key case file detailing evidence against corrupt
government officials and their dealings with a network stealing nuclear secrets...One of the
documents relating to the case was marked 203A-WF-210023. Last week, however, the FBI
responded to a freedom of information request for a file of exactly the same number by claiming
that it did not exist. But The Sunday Times has obtained a document signed by an FBI official
showing the existence of the file. Edmonds believes the crucial file is being deliberately covered up
by the FBI because its contents are explosive. She accuses the agency of an "outright lie". "I can
tell you that that file and the operations it refers to did exist from 1996 to February 2002. The file refers
to the counterintelligence programme that the Department of Justice has declared to be a state secret

promote Turkish interests in Congress and in other public forums. Edmonds refers to ATC and AIPAC as "sister
organizations." The group's founders include a number of prominent Americans involved in the Israel-Turkey
relationship, notably Henry Kissinger, Brent Scowcroft, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, and former congressman
Stephen Solarz. Perle and Feith had earlier been registered lobbyists for Turkey through Feith's company,
International Advisors Inc. The FBI was interested in ATC because it suspected that the group derived at least
some of its income from drug trafficking, Turkey being the source of 90 percent of the heroin that reaches Europe,
and because of reports that it had given congressmen illegal contributions or bribes. Moreover, as Edmonds told
the Times, the Turks have "often acted as a conduit for the Inter-Services Intelligence, Pakistan's spy agency,
because they were less likely to attract attention." ...'

from every nuclear agency in the United States," Edmonds told the Times...She claims to have also learned that
corrupt officials in the Turkish and Israeli Ministries of Defense falsified end-user certificates on weapons purchased
in the United States to enable sales to third countries not allowed access to the technology. Principal recipients
include the five 'Stans' in central Asia - Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan...There have

'...She also claimed that Al Qaeda was 95% financed by drugs, but the 9/11 Commission went out of its way to
write "there is no reliable evidence that Bin Laden was involved in or made his money through drug trafficking."
This drug trade goes back to the CIA's long-time involvement with Pakistan's ISI and the BCCI. It grew greatly
during the effort to oust the Soviets from Afghanistan. If today, the CIA, the Taliban, and Al Qaeda are all
involved in the Afghan drug trade, it would not be surprising if they had some common business relationships
or, at the least, were all dealing with the same major Afghan drug lords...At the heart of her problems were her
claims that Turkish money was making its way to US politicians and that the Turks and others were involved in
the drug and illicit arms trade. She has repeatedly claimed that she was gagged because she knew criminally
obtained money was reaching people in high places in the United States government. In 1997, British Home
Secretary Tom Sackville angered his government by openly stating that Turkey was neck-deep in the international
drug trade. He was correct in point of fact, but Turkey is an important western ally, and it would be disconcerting
to take the next step and suggest that the US and UK simply look the other way, even when some of this drug
money ends up in the coffers of Al Quada. About $40 billion worth of heroin and illegal drugs pass through Turkey
each year; most of it going to Europe. Turkey receives, processes, and ships heroin from a "Golden Triangle,"
Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran. The Turkish mafia coordinates all this, but they work in conjunction with the MIT
(Turkish Intelligence Agency), the military command, and police. The trade comprises about a quarter of the
nation's GNP, and it can be assumed that much of the profit goes to the state itself. For some reason, the people
on Vice President Cheney's staff who were busy discrediting CIA agent Valerie Plame and her husband Ambassador
Joseph Wilson had close ties to Turkey...'
Turkey's Role, Together With The CIA, In International Drug Smuggling Begins To Get Attention...
'Turkey's Drug-Terrorism Connection'
'...Those routes were the ones favored by smugglers who reportedly carried NATO military equipment to the Middle
East and returned with loads of heroin. Judge Carlo Palermo, an Italian magistrate based in Trento, discovered
these smuggling operations while investigating arms-and-drug trafficking from Eastern Europe to Sicily. Judge Palermo
disclosed that large quantities of sophisticated NATO weaponry - including machine guns, Leopard tanks and U.S.-built
Cobra assault helicopters - were smuggled from Western Europe to countries in the Middle East during the 1970s and
early 1980s. According to Palermo's investigation, the weapon delivers were often made in exchange for consignments
of heroin that filtered back, courtesy of the Grey Wolves and other smugglers, through Bulgaria to northern Italy. There,
the rugs were received by Mafia middlemen and transported to North America. Turkish morphine base supplied much of
the Sicilian-run "Pizza connection," which flooded the U.S. and Europe with high-grade heroin for several years. While it
is still not clear how the NATO supplies entered the pipeline, other investigations have provided some clues. Witnesses
in the October Surprise inquiry into an alleged Republican-Iranian hostage deal in 1980 claimed that they were allowed to
select weapons from NATO stockpiles in Europe for shipment to Iran. Iranian arms dealer Houshang Lavi claimed that he
selected spare parts for Hawk anti-aircraft batteries from NATO bases along the Belgian-German border. Another witness,
American arms broker William Herrmann, corroborated Lav''s account of NATO supplies going to Iran...Italian magistrates
described the network they had uncovered as the "world's biggest illegal arms trafficking organization." They linked it to
Middle Eastern drug empires and to prestigious banking circles in Italy and Europe...the CIA's link to the arms-for-drugs
traffic in Bulgaria was widely known in espionage circles...'
The White House Begins To Panic, And Tries To Retroactively 'Legitimize' These Crimes Through The Back Door...
'White House In Panic Over Sibel Edmonds?'
'...Sixteen days after the UK Times' published a blockbuster article, 'For Sale: West's Deadly Nuclear Secrets',
about how certain top US government officials were enabling Turkish and Israeli interests in supplying the nuclear
black market, President Bush quietly announced on Tuesday that he wants Congress to approve sales of nuclear
technology to Turkey. Is this a reaction to the Times article? It sure looks like it. I wouldn't be surprised if we soon
start hearing about retroactive immunity for the guilty parties, just as we are seeing in the illegal spying case currently
in the Senate. As always happens in this case, the silence in the US media is deafening. Two years ago, Bush's efforts
to sell nuclear technology prompted much "indignation and furor," but not a single major US media outlet has yet
reported the proposed deal with Turkey. Agence France-Presse put out a report on its wires which has been picked
up around the world, but that's about it...'
'Talking Nuclear Turkey'
'You wouldn't know it from the American press, but President Bush just cleared the way for a nuclear cooperation
agreement with Turkey that had been on ice since 2000, submitting it to Congress for approval on Wednesday. The
deal, signed under the Clinton administration, had been stalled by a subsequent finding that certain Turkish "private
entities" posed a proliferation threat. That threat has been addressed by Turkey, according to President Bush in his
message accompanying the bill to Congress. This is a very significant move, part of a larger initiative I've written
about before, designed to help Turkey secure its energy supply, and to keep it from slipping further out of the West's
sphere of influence and into energy-based tactical alliances with Russia and Iran. The nuclear angle will become
even more central to that effort given the difficulties encountered in moving the EU's Nabucco pipeline project forward.
The deal does not allow for the transfer of sensitive technology or data, and the Secretaries of State and Energy as
well as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission all signed off on the updated Nuclear Proliferation Assessment Statement
(NPAS). Still, the timing of the Bush administration's announcement seems suspect, coming as it does on the heels of
a meeting between President Bush and Turkish President Abdullah Gul where energy policy figured prominently, as
well as on the eve of Turkey's call for tenders for the construction of its first reactor. It also comes in the immediate
aftermath of Sibel Edmonds' accusations, reported widely in the English and Turkish press but ignored Stateside, that
Turkey was the longstanding beneficiary of nuclear secrets funneled out of Washington...'
'Why Bush Wants To Legalize The Nuke Trade With Turkey'
'..What "private entities" the Press Release refers to is not clear, but it could well include the American Turkish Council,
the "entity" revealed in the Times article. The Bushites seem to be covering their own exposed backsides, for the timing
of Bush's call to sell nuke secrets to Turkey is certainly suspicious, if not overtly conspicuous. It appears the White House
has been spooked by Edmonds and hopes to absolve the U.S. officials allegedly involved in the illegal sale of nuclear
technology to private Turkish "entities"...Totally complicit in the nuke trade, the U.S. government, according to Edmonds,
has known of the expansive criminal activities of these foreign nations' presence in the States, which has included all sorts
of illegal activities like drug trafficking, espionage and money laundering...'
'The Big Fix: Bushists Seek To Legalize the Nuke Black Market'
'..According to the late Israeli scholar Israel Shahak: "...massive involvement of Israeli Intelligence in drug trafficking must
be well known to (and is probably approved by) its American opposite numbers. Ample precedents for that exist. ... It can
therefore be tentatively presumed that in its encouragement of drug traffic and traffickers, as in much else, Israel acts as
a proxy executor of the American will. This would at least partly explain why this policy works. -- Israel Shahak, 'Open
Secrets: Israeli Nuclear and Foreign Policies' [London: Pluto Press, 1997] p. 121." Precisely as Sibel Edmonds has
described regarding the drug trafficking angle of the nuclear proliferation network'
...And Bush Quickly Brings Neocon Paul Wolfowitz Back On Board!
'Paul Wolfowitz To Advise On Arms Control For Bush'
'Paul Wolfowitz has been appointed a high-level adviser on arms control to the Bush administration, dealing with
issues such as Iran and North Korea. The appointment of the former head of the World Bank to the International
Security Advisory Board will once again give one of Mr Bush's hawkish proponents of the Iraq war an official
channel to the administration. The panel's duty is to supply independent advice on arms control, disarmament,
non-proliferation< and related subjects..'

But 'Those In The Know' Continue Steadfast In Their Support Of Sibel Edmonds...
'Interview: Ex-CIA Agent, Phil Giraldi, On Sibel Edmonds' Allegations'
'...Giraldi, who is familiar with how these things work, says: "(A)s a translator (she) would have worked very closely
with the FBI supervising officers to try to figure out what these transcripts meant. So the argument that she only saw
these 'bits' is not really true, she would have been very interactive in terms of the people running these operations and
she would have found out a lot more." Giraldi makes another good point. None of the guilty parties identified in the case
have gone out of their way to exonerate their good names..."I'm wondering why, if these people are innocent, they aren't
making a more serious effort to demonstrate that they are." Giraldi also debunks the 'she uncovered a sting operation'
idea that has started floating around lately, after 5 years: "And the other argument that keeps getting trotted out, is that
Grossman and all these other people might have been part of some sting operation back in 2001, 2002. Well, first of all
a sting operation back in 2001, 2002 that has been pretty much exposed in the media in the subsequent six years is not
something that you would necessarily have to hide. You could say 'Look, they were involved in doing the finest, highest
level work for the US government' - they could say something like that to make this story go away, but they haven't done
that. And I assure you, as a CIA officer, that the agency would never have used the number 3 person at State Dept as a
person in a sting operation. The State Dept would never have permitted it, and the agency would never have even
conceived of it, so the whole argument that this was some kind of sophisticated scam to sting the A.Q. Khan network or
something like that is ridiculous." Then there's this: "See the point is that she's been gagged, and think about what the
gag means. The gag means that the government is trying to suppress classified information that she has. That means
that they believe that what she is saying is true."...'
The London 'Sunday Times' Masterfully Continues Scooping The Timid, Silent U.S. Press On This Major Story...
UPDATE! 'Mole's Tip-Off Thwarted Nuclear Spy Ring Probe'
'An investigation into the illicit sale of American nuclear secrets was compromised by a senior official in the State
Department, a former FBI employee has claimed. The official is said to have tipped off a foreign contact about a bogus
CIA company used to investigate the sale of nuclear secrets. The firm, Brewster Jennings & Associates, was a front for
Valerie Plame, the former CIA agent. Her public outing two years later in 2003 by White House officials became a cause
celebre. The claims that a State Department official blew the investigation into a nuclear smuggling ring have been made
by Sibel Edmonds, 38, a former Turkish language translator in the FBI's Washington field office...Her latest claims relate
to a number of intercepted recordings believed to have been made between the summer and autumn of 2001. At that time,
foreign agents were actively attempting to acquire the West's nuclear secrets and technology. Among the buyers were
Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan's intelligence agency, which was working with Abdul Qadeer Khan, the 'father
of the Islamic bomb', who in turn was selling nuclear technology to rogue states such as Libya...Brewster Jennings was
one of a number of covert enterprises set up to infiltrate the nuclear ring. It is is believed to have been based in Boston
and consisted of little more than a name, a telephone number and a post office box address...The FBI was monitoring
Turkish diplomatic and political figures based in Washington who were allegedly working with the Israelis and using
'moles' in military and academic institutions to acquire nuclear secrets. The creation of this nuclear ring had been
assisted, Edmonds says, by the senior official in the State Department who she heard in one conversation arranging to
pick up a $15,000 bribe. One group of Turkish agents who had come to America on the pretext of researching alternative
energy sources was introduced to Brewster Jennings through the Washington-based American Turkish Council (ATC), a
lobby group that aids commercial ties between the countries. Edmonds says the Turks believed Brewster Jennings to be
energy consultants and were planning to hire them. But she said: "He [the State Department official] found out about the
arrangement...and he contacted one of the foreign targets and said...you need to stay away from Brewster Jennings
because they are a cover for the government. The target...immediately followed up by calling several people to warn
them about Brewster Jennings. At least one of them was at the ATC. This person also called an ISI person to warn them."
If the ISI was made aware of the CIA front company, then this would almost certainly have damaged the investigation into
the activities of Khan...It would be more than two years before Khan was forced to admit he had been selling nuclear
weapons technology to Libya, Iran and North Korea...Phillip Giraldi, a former CIA officer, said:..."If indeed that [State
Department] official was working with the Turks to violate US law on nuclear exports, it would have been in his interest
to alert them to the fact that this woman's company was affiliated to the CIA. I don't know if that's
treason legally but many people would consider it to be."...'
'UK Times: Brewster Jennings Outed By 'Treasonous' U.S. Government Official In 2001, Not 2003'
'...Significantly, since the Times began this series three weeks ago, the White House has quietly moved to legalize the
sale of nuclear technonlogy to Turkey in an apparent attempt to 'Exonerate Neocon Criminals' who have been illegally
selling this technology for a decade. Congress has 90 days to block this legislation, otherwise it becomes law. If Turkey
wants and deserves nuclear technology, this decision should be made openly and transparently, not the result of stealth
decisions made by this administration to hide crimes of senior U.S. officials. We need public open hearings to determine
which officials have been supplying the nuclear black market before this becomes law.'
'Sibel, Nukes, And Covering Ass'
'...the Bush administration is pressing Congress for approval of sales of nuclear technology to Turkey...NPAS stands for
nuclear proliferation assessment statement, but what's interesting about the statement is that in it, the Bush administration
admits that there are already nuclear proliferation activities in Turkey, carried out by "certain Turkish entities". I'm willing
to bet that these "entities" refer to the Turkish companies, very possibly including those that Sibel has mentioned in
connection with nuclear technology black-marketing. Furthermore, according to the White House press release, the U.S.
government had to bring these "Turkish entities" to the attention of the Turkish government. That is the biggest load of
baloney ever! Does anyone - naive Westerners excepted, of course - honestly believe that, in a fascist regime like Turkey,
either the civil government or the Pasas wouldn't know about nuclear "proliferation activities" taking place inside the
country? Such an idea is not only absolutely preposterous, it's also impossible...'
But It All Comes Back To What Appears To Be A Straight Transaction - U.S. Nuclear Secrets For Turkish Drug Money...
'Sibel Edmonds, Susurluk And The Turkish Mafia' (2006)
'...Edmonds, who gave evidence to the 9/11 commission based on her experience, was fired by the FBI after she accused
colleagues of corruption involving Turkey. She is a celebrated whistle-blower in America. But she is bound by a draconian
gag order. She can't say a lot, but anyone interested in Susurluk's legacy should listen carefully to what she does say. She
questioned how drug trafficking can stop when it is so vital to the Turkish economy: "The sums of money are huge. If it
stopped it would cause an economic crash." Dr Ertan Bese, of the Turkish National Police Academy, wrote in his 2004
doctoral thesis on Turkish organised crime, that the underworld economy of Turkey is worth $60 billion, amounting to a
massive 25 per cent of Turkey's national income. A huge proportion of this figure is derived from heroin trafficking.
Edmonds has testified, in secret, to how she discussed hearing Turkish consular officials in the USA apparently
discussing drug deals. She told Druglink: "In Turkey everything is run by the military. These activities cannot take
place without the permission of the military and the permission of Turkish intelligence."...'
Courageous American Columnists And Regional Newspapers Are Beginning To Break The U.S. Media 'Blackout'...
Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal: 'Holy Nuclear Secrets, Batman!'
'...Edmonds told her story to closed sessions of Congress and the 911 Commission a couple of years back, but has
since become disenchanted with the failure of authorities to act. And apparently the 'Main Stream Media' in this free
country won't touch the story with a 10-foot pole, so Whistleblower Edmonds took her story overseas. Thanks to the
net, it is making the worldwide rounds having been front page new in some countries. But guess how many major papers
in the United States have picked it up? That answer is self evident. On top of that, Edmonds told the Times that she
heard plenty of evidence involving money laundering and drug running. And on top of that, Edmonds asserts that some
of these FBI targets had been rounded up as suspects right after 911, but at least one senior official used his influence
to get these suspects released. Apparently, some FBI agents were none too pleased but were powerless to get anything
done about it. Well. Lest you think Edmonds is some kind of conspiracy nut, after Edmonds testified in Congress she was
branded as completely credible by that wild-eyed conspiracy nut, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. Plus, FBI agents with
whom Ms. Edmonds worked have publically supported her. I know it is hard to believe in American conspiracies. All good
Americans know that the last one was over a hundred years ago, when Lincoln was assassinated. Despite what you might
think, the decisive issue is not so much the fact that some big time government apparatchiks decided to make a buck
selling secrets to foreign agents. That has happened time and time again. The real issue is the silence of major American
news outlets about a story being reported around the world. But we do know that Britney is having problems.

'Who Is Stealing Our Nuclear Secrets - And Why Are They Being Shielded By The Authorities?'
'...The Israeli connection is what's interesting about this covert operation, because it involves U.S. citizens, high government
officials who have been part of an ongoing investigation that dates back to at least 1999, the earliest year mentioned in
the AIPAC indictment..surely a major part of it is this nuclear black market business that Edmonds has clear evidence of.
Edmonds has been subjected to an unprecedented gag order, imposed by a judge in the name of preserving "state secrets"
- yet what is being preserved, apparently, aren't state secrets at all but the knowledge that our nuclear secrets are being
stolen and sold to the highest bidder with the active collaboration of high U.S. government officials. A whole gallery of top
figures has been fingered by Edmonds, who hasn't mentioned any names yet has managed to identify the guilty parties by
posting their photos on a Web site associated with her case. The lack of coverage of this amazing - and quite frightening
- story in the U.S. media is easily explained: anything having to do with the activities of Israeli intelligence in this country
is sure to sink beneath the radar, although the London Times and a good number of international news outlets have picked
up the details. What isn't so easily explained is the cover-up of criminal activities, including treason, by our very own Federal
Bureau of Investigation...Who is protecting what I called this treasonous camarilla from prosecution - and why have successive
investigations into a number of activities by the same cabal of government officials been closed down, repeatedly, over the
years? ...Okay, so let's see where this brings us: an underground network of spies and corrupt public officials is selling nuclear
secrets worldwide, and al-Qaeda may very well have gotten its hands on enough lethal materials to make roughly 1,000 "dirty"
bombs. Not only that, but the public officials and Washington insiders connected to this network are being protected from
prosecution. The case files that document their treason have been withheld, and possibly destroyed. Our brain-dead media,
our kept pundits, and the "mainstream" outlets that determine if and when a news story is "legitimate" have systematically
ignored the allegations of Sibel Edmonds, in spite of numerous endorsements of her credibility from two respected U.S.
senators, the FBI's Office of the Inspector General, and numerous current and former FBI agents who share her frustration
with the shameless cover-up of this important case. It is absolutely outrageous that not a single major news organization in
the U.S. has bothered to examine the charges made by Edmonds - especially when it is known that
Islamist groups are still planning attacks on Western targets...'

intelligence material had been deliberately allowed to accumulate without translation; that inept translators were retained

and Feith had earlier been registered lobbyists for Turkey through Feith's company, International Advisors Inc. Perle was at
one point making $600,000 per year from such activity). Edmonds says this is "an association in name and in charter only; the
reality is that it and other affiliated associations are the US government, lobbyists, foreign agents, and Military Industrial
Complex."...Both ATA and ATC have been targets of FBI investigations because of their suspected ties with drug smuggling,
but Edmonds claims she heard wiretaps connecting ATC with other illegal activities, some related to 9/11. The CIA has
investigated it in connection with the smuggling of nuclear secrets and material. Valerie Plame and the CIA front group
Brewster Jennings were monitoring it when Bush administration officials leaked her identity in July 2003......'
It's Just Getting Started! Luke Ryland Has A New Blockbuster Interview With Ex-FBI Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds...
Sibel Edmonds: 'Buckle Up, There's Much More Coming.'
'...In the last few weeks, the UK's 'Times' has run a series of articles about the so-called 'Sibel Edmonds case.'
('For
Sale: West's Deadly Nuclear Secrets', 'FBI Denies File Exposing Nuclear Secrets Theft'
and 'Tip-Off Thwarted
Nuclear Spy Ring Probe'). Former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds stumbled into a world of espionage, nuclear black
market, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and corruption at the highest levels of the US government. I
interviewed Sibel yesterday regarding the current investigation and reporting by the Times, the failures of the US
media, and last week's decision by the Bush administration to legalize the sale of nuclear technology to Turkey, in
an apparent to exonerate prior criminal activity by officials in his administration. Sibel also has some urgent 'action
items' so that we can stop these dangerous nuclear proliferation activities. I urge you to act on her suggestions...
[Sibel Edmonds] "There's been a lot of speculation in the last few weeks that American reporters haven't touched
this story because they are 'corporate owned' but it is wrong to exonerate these reporters so quickly. Many of them
are too close to their official sources, and some are simply lazy. This Times team chases sources, and if they can't
reach them one way, they'll try and try again, or they'll seek out alternate sources, or find other ways to ensure that
they get the story...I have one message for the US media: If they think this is over, it's not over. Much more will come
out. They won't be able to ignore it any longer, and so I hope they get over any reluctance they might have. Look at
the positive press that the Times' series has received since their first article ran. Do you think their editors haven't
noticed? The Times is adding more and more resources to the story, more journalists, bigger budgets, and more
importantly, they are getting more and more sources coming forward to shed light on these illegal activities. As I have
said from the beginning, this story is not about me, there are many sources who have been waiting for the right time
to come forward, I've probably never even heard of most of them, and now they are coming forward. This will play
out like Watergate played out, with the drip, drip, drip. So I say to everyone 'Buckle up, there's much more coming.'..."
And Here's An Interesting Insight Into The Massive Heroin Trafficking Relationships Between The Turks And The U.S. Elite...
Turkey: 'Pasas In A Panic And Deep State Drug Trafficking'
...the Ankara regime funds itself through the heroin industry: "Since the 1950s, Turkey has played a key role in
channelling into Europe and the United States the heroin produced in the "Golden Triangle" comprised by Afghanistan,
Pakistan and Iran. The operation is run by mafia groups closely controlled by the MIT. One of their personnel described
their relations with the police in the following terms: "Our people are able to pass through Yesilköy (Istanbul) airport
whenever they wish, without being controlled by customs, with briefcases containing 3-5 million marks. Sometimes they
stamp their passports, sometimes they don't. Our boss has all kinds of false passports, stamps etc. (6)
.After the Gulf War
in 1991, Turkey found itself deprived of the all-important Iraqi market and, since it lacked significant oil reserves of its
own, it decided to make up for the loss by turning more massively to drugs. The trafficking increased in intensity with
the arrival of the "hawks" in power, after the death in suspicious circumstances of President Turgut Özal in April 1993.
According to the minister of interior, the war in Kurdistan had cost the Turkish exchequer upwards of $12.5 billion (7).
Whereas, according to the daily Hürriyet, Turkey's heroin trafficking brought in $25 billion in 1995 and $37.5 billion in
1996 (8). Only criminal networks working in close cooperation with the police and the army could possibly organise
trafficking on such a scale. Drug barons such as Huseyin Baybasin have stated publicly, on Turkish television and in
the West, that they have been working under the protection of the Turkish government and to its financial benefit (9).
The traffickers themselves travel on diplomatic passports. According to witnesses at the Parliamentary Commission
inquiring into the Susurluk accident, the drugs are even transported by military helicopter from the Iranian border. The
president of the commission himself, deputy Mehmet Erkatmis, has protested against the fact that these damning
allegations have been censured out of the commission's official report." The Turks aren't the only ones keeping truth
out of official reports. A year ago, Luke Ryland took a hard look at the US State Department's 2006 International
Narcotics Strategy Report - in light of Sibel Edmonds' information - which named Turkey as "a key player in this industry."
Comparing it to the World Bank's report on Afghanistan's drug industry, Luke noted that the World Bank made virtually
no reference to Turkey's role: "At least three quarters of all heroin sold in Western Europe comes from Turkey - 4 to 6
tons every month - yet the World Bank report mentions Turkey exactly... once!" Here's the reference, in all it's glory:
"The large dealers in both Lashkar Gah city and Kandahar claimed that they deal directly with buyers in Pakistan,
Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States." That single reference to Turkey is all that the report could muster.
Why would Wolfowitz want to erase any mention of Turkey from his report?" Because those members of the Deep State
in the US also benefit from Turkey's heroin industry no differently than their Turkish counterparts, as quoted earlier and
as discussed by Sibel Edmonds and Philip Giraldi in Luke's post. In other words, it's not just the handful of criminals in
the Ergenekon gang who are involved in narco-trafficking. It's a globalized industry for the elites...'
A Surprise Reaction To Sibel Edmonds' Revelations In Turkey? Sudden Arrests Occur...
Daily Kos: 'Sibel Edmonds And A Democratic Coup D'Etat In Turkey!'
...As The Sunday Times reveals more about Sibel Edmonds revelations of corruption, criminal activity and drugs
smuggling between US Neo Cons and Turkish 'Deep State' 13 people have been detained in Turkey accused of being
members of a ultra nationalist Turkish right wing milita called Ergenekon. Is this a coincidence or are some in the
Neo Con/Turkish Deep State alliance getting nervous about future promised revelations from Sibel!...While the leader
of the Turkish 'Deep State', Chief of the General Staff, General Yasar Buyukanit, was out of the country visiting London
(20th-24th Jan), 33 members of a shadowy, extreme right wing ultra nationalist group, named Ergenekon were rounded
up and detained (22nd Jan). 13 are still in detention and are now awaiting charges of political murder, assassination,
provocations and dirty 'Deep State' activities...Was it significant that General Buyukanit was out of the country when
these arrests took place and does this indicate an escalation in the tension and friction between the ruling AKP and
Turkish 'deep staters' such as Buyukanit? Was this a democratic Coup D'etat?...This all comes at a time when Sibel
Edmonds is revealing 'secrets' about the 'dirty' relationships between, Neo Con/American individuals and Turkish 'Deep
Staters' in the US. Are these arrests a sign that the Neo Con/Turkish 'Deep State' 'untouchables' are getting nervous
about what could be revealed. Sibel Edmonds has promised more revelations! These two developments should be linked
and further investigations should be followed up. Here again, conflicts created for the benefit of financial gains of a few
individuals and private organisations, at the expense of misery, war and hardship for the majority of citizens of Turkey
and Kurdistan. A network of spies, murders, criminals, politicians, intelligence agents, military generals and consultancy
groups all working for their own selfish greed in the trade of narcotics, arms, oil and much more. The names from the US
and Turkey will, undoubtedly, all join up in the end!...'
A Major American Magazine (With An Excellent Track Record In Intelligence Matters) Weighs In...
Harper's Magazine:'Missing News Items Report: Spy And Counterspy'
...An FBI counterintelligence translator working in the most sensitive of positions knows something which is deadly
dangerous. The FBI itself goes into a cold sweat panic. She is the target of a series of obnoxious tricks perpetrated in
part through the legal system, including a Constitution-defying gag-order. When she brings claims for wrongful termination,
ex parte meetings occur between the Government and judges and her case is shut down. The sort of thing that happens
in totalitarian states, and now, courtesy of the Bush Administration, the United States. What did Sibel Edmonds know
that was so threatening? And why was the United States media afraid of her? In fact, it's hard to explain their attitude
other than as fear - of course it is not actually fear of her, it is fear of the blow-back they will get from the Bush
Administration for publishing any part of her tale. In the meantime, Europeans and particularly Britons, know all about
Sibel Edmonds and what she uncovered. It's a widespread and alarming story of betrayal and compromise involving
household names close to the pinnacles of power in Bushdom, and the spread of nuclear weapons. The story has been
substantially corroborated. And even though this has the makings of a modern spy thriller and it threatens to end several
prominent careers, the story is unreported in the United States mainstream media....how do we account for the total
disinterest shown by the U.S. mainstream media, which have collectively ignored this whole matter? It's a vitally important
story. It reflects very negatively on the Bush Administration and the conduct of key actors in it. And it is highly credible.
They've decided to spike it, which is exactly what the Bush Administration wants them to do. Once more, American readers
who want to learn about vital national security matters within the United States need to focus on
newspapers in Britain.
Let's call them Radio Free America.'
This Brand New 'Exclusive Interview' With An 'Ex-CIA Agent' Adds Alarming Details, If They're Accurate...
Daily Star, Bangladesh: 'Nuclear Proliferation Cannot Be Controlled Now, Former CIA Agent Says'
'A former American CIA agent and nuclear expert David Dastych has claimed that main nuclear arsenals of Pakistan, India,
Britain, France, the USA, Russia and China are safe but nuclear proliferation could not be controlled now because it has
completely slipped out of control. He said some corrupt officials of the US defence and state departments were involved
in the theft of US nuclear secrets which were sold to many countries including Israel and Pakistan. In an exclusive
interview with Hamid Mir, he said questioning Pakistani scientist Dr A Q Khan is not of any high value now. He said
Russian-made small neutron bombs are a real threat to world peace. David Dastych (65) was recruited to Polish
intelligence in 1961. He joined CIA in 1973 and became a double agent. He served in the USA, Europe, Vietnam, and
China and in other countries. He was arrested by Polish counterintelligence in 1987 on charges of espionage for
American and Japanese secret services. He was released from prison in 1990, after the fall of communist regime in
Poland. In the following years he worked for several western intelligence services for the monitoring of illegal nuclear
trade. He survived two assassination attempts. His son died mysteriously in the UK in 1996. He is living in Poland these
days and writing for some local and international magazines. (The following) interview was done via email...."The main
recipient of the most of the US nuclear information was always Israel, specifically after the capture, sentencing and jailing
of their main spy in the USA. Jonathan Pollard, whose handler was a former top Israeli intelligence officer Rafi Eitan (now
member of the Israeli government and chairman of the Pensioners Party). An informal group in the Mossad composed of
right-wing operatives and working hand-in-hand with the Turkish and Pakistani Intelligence was offering US nuclear
technology to some Arab countries and to other countries. They did this for profit and, in some cases also for political
motives, for example, to get direct proof of some foreign states illegally purchasing nuclear materials or technology. At
present, this might be used as a justification to prove that Iran is developing nuclear weapons."...'
A U.S. Media Blackout On This Major Story? We Come Back To The Fundamental Question - Why?
'Who's Afraid Ff Sibel Edmonds?'
'As usual, the most important stories are sometimes the ones ignored by the major media. And the Sibel Edmonds story
is typical. Why is it an important story? Because it shows that within our government there are people who are working
for exactly the opposite of what this administration is faking to stand for. And why is it not covered? Because digging into
it could lead to a domino effect reaching people in high positions. This is definitely not a conspiracy theory; there are
enough facts to back-up all allegations, including congressional investigations that confirm them. And moreover, as is
typical in these cases, a congressional investigation that was stopped in its tracks...The other interesting fact is that the
major players involved in this underworld (and planting moles in our government) are agents from our closest allies on the
"war on terror": Turkey, Israel, and Pakistan. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, the nuclear arms black market is not
limited to our "allies". Lybia, Iran and North Korea acquired their technology from the Pakistani nuclear scientist Abdul
Qadeer Khan. And the threat of nuclear proliferation is now used as a pretext for deploying anti-missile bases in Eastern
Europe, thus creating serious frictions with Russia and a potential new cold war. We are going full circle!...So this raises
the question: why is it being ignored? Another way to put the question is: who's afraid of the fallout.
Could anyone in high position be affected?...'

'Most Americans have never heard of Sibel Edmonds, and if the U.S. government has its way, they never will. The former
FBI translator turned whistleblower tells a chilling story of corruption at Washington's highest levels-sale of nuclear secrets,
shielding of terrorist suspects, illegal arms transfers, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, espionage. She may be a
first-rate fabulist, but Edmonds's account is full of dates, places, and names. And if she is to be believed, a treasonous plot
to embed moles in American military and nuclear installations and pass sensitive intelligence to Israeli, Pakistani, and
Turkish sources was facilitated by figures in the upper echelons of the State and Defense Departments. Her charges
could be easily confirmed or dismissed if classified government documents were made available to investigators....'

And, Linking The Sibel Edmond's Allegations Back To The Events Surrounding 9/11, We Get This Thoughtful And Insightful Piece...
Baltimore Chronicle: 'Follow The Money? God Forbid!
Why Was The Cashing Out Of Billions Of Dollars Just Before The 9/11 Attacks Never Investigated?'
'It's been over six years since 9/11, but U.S. regulatory entities have been slow to follow through with reports about the
complex financial transactions that occurred just prior to and following the attacks. Such research could shed light on
such questions as who was behind them - and who benefited - and could help lay to rest the rumors that have been festering.
Warning bells about anomalies in the fiscal sector were sounded in the summer of 2001, but not heeded. Among those
who has since raised questions was Bill Bergman. As a financial market analyst for the Federal Reserve, he was assigned
in 2003 to review the record of July and August of 2001. He noticed an unusual surge in the currency component of the
M1 money supply (cash circulating outside of banks) during that period. The surge totaled over $5 billion above the norm
for a two-month increase. The increase in August alone was the third largest single monthly increase since 1947, even
after a significantly above-average month in July. When reviewing the record of July and August of 2001, Bill Bergman
noticed a $5 billion surge in the currency component of the M1 money supply - the third largest such increase since 1947.
Bergman asked about this anomaly - and was removed from his investigative duties.Surges in the currency component of
M1 are often the result of people withdrawing their cash to protect themselves lest some anticipated disaster (such as Y2K)
befall the economy...Bergman "followed the money," including developing a framework for working with money-laundering
data and "suspicious activity" reports for monitoring and investigating terrorism. The questions he asked about what
happened during the summer of 2001 should have led to investigations, which should have resulted in the prosecution of
those with foreknowledge of the attacks...Bergman's supervisor instructed him follow up on an unanswered question
he had raised pertaining to an August 2, 2001 letter from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve to the 12 Reserve
Banks. This letter urged scrutiny of suspicious activity reports. Bergman learned of the pervasiveness of the warnings of
the 9/11 attacks, and wondered how thoroughly these warnings had permeated the financial system. In this capacity as
Federal Reserve investigative point-man, and with his money-laundering portfolio being guided by his supervisor's directive,
he asked the Board why they had issued their August 2, 2001 directive, and whether this related to any heightened
intelligence of a terrorist threat. His position was then eliminated, and a crucial investigation was terminated before it could
even begin...R.T. Naylor suggests, in his wonderful book 'Satanic Purses', that any major terrorist event that involves a lot
of money is 'state terrorism,' and this is independently confirmed by Sibel Edmonds' statements as to the enormous sums
changing hands at the time of the 9/11 attacks. I suggest that her testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee (Leahy
and Grassley) gave the lie to the official financial myth of 9/11. If Bergman had been allowed to continue his investigation,
I suggest that he would have uncovered the same thing. Note that the drug money and other illicit transactions described
by Edmonds occurred during the same time period, and the amounts in the billions are comparable...'
And Here's Just Part Of The Nuclear 'Blowback' From These Sordid Activities That We'll Be Living With For A Very Long Time...
Asia Times: 'U.S. Plays Matchmaker To Pakistan, Israel'
'Geopolitics around Pakistan are taking dramatic turns. Details are emerging of a meeting between Pakistan President
Pervez Musharraf and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. A spin has been given that Musharraf and Barak had a
"chance encounter" in a hotel lobby in Paris. It stretches credulity. Israeli media since revealed that Musharraf placed
his hand on Barak's shoulder as the latter praised the Pakistani leader for his role in the "war on terror". The following
day, Barak had an hour-long meeting with Musharraf at the latter's invitation. In all probability, Israel's close ally on
Capitol Hill in Washington DC, the resourceful US Senator Joseph Lieberman, who visited Pakistan as a state guest in
early January, put together the Musharraf-Barak meeting...Islamabad has felt the need to factor in what has come to
be known as the "Osirak contingency". In their masterly work 'Deception: Pakistan, the United States and the Secret
Trade in Nuclear Weapons'
, authors Adrian Levy and Catherine Scott-Clark have named top-level Indian sources,
who previously served in key positions in the government, as admitting that Delhi closely worked with Israel on more
than one occasion over plans to attack Pakistan's nuclear installations. Of course, an apocalyptic conflagration of
such a kind is simply unthinkable in today's circumstances when all three - Israel, Pakistan and India - are full nuclear
powers, but like any military establishment would do, Rawalpindi, the site of the headquarters of the Pakistan armed
forces, is bound to plan against a worst-case scenario. Furthermore, there is always a new angle in a future context
- Israel could harbor misgivings that fissile materials out of Pakistan's nuclear facilities might find their way to Iran...
An altogether new strategic equation may develop in the region between Russia, China and Pakistan. With the regional
security environment in such a flux, Musharraf's message to Barak would have been direct: Pakistan is in no way
threatening Israel's security directly or in league with a third country, and Pakistan expects Israel to reciprocate.
Coming from one soldier-turned-politician to another, that is not too much to ask. Barak would have understood.'

'Treason at the State Department: A Whistleblower's Story'
'...Why has the mainstream media ignored such an important story? This reporter spoke to a number of Edmonds'
colleagues on the subject. One member of the National Security Whistleblower Coalition (NSWC) - over which Edmonds
presides - shared Ellsberg's disbelief at the lack of coverage on the Edmonds story; Ellsberg is also a NSWC member. A
current employee of the Department of Homeland Security, who spoke to Pajamas Media on the condition of anonymity,
had this to say: "It is mind-boggling. I've sent personal emails to my contacts at ABC, at CBS, at the New York Times,
and the Washington Times. No one is even responding to my emails. They call me back about other things, but as far as
Sibel [Edmonds] is concerned, anything touching on that subject gets overlooked, gets ignored." "Why?" this reporter
asked. "Reporters are terrified of the State Secrets Privilege and being subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury.
No one wants to wind up like Judy Miller - in jail". The State Secrets Privilege, born of a controversial 1953 Supreme
Court ruling, has been invoked with growing frequency. It allows the executive branch of government to deflect and
derail litigation against the government on grounds that adjudicating such a case would damage national security...'
Is Congress Finally Developing Some Backbone And Moving To Rein In This Lame Duck President?
'U.S. Congress Seeks To Limit 'State Secrets' Privilege'
'Alarmed by the Bush Administration's increasing use of the so-called "state secrets privilege" to keep politically
embarrassing lawsuits against the government from ever coming before a judge, Congress is stepping in to help
ensure that people with grievances can have their cases heard. A new bill sponsored by Senators Edward M. Kennedy,
a Massachusetts Democrat, and Arlen Specter, Republican of Pennsylvania, would provide a mechanism for protecting
legitimate secrets while also permitting civil litigation to proceed. Both are members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The state secrets privilege is a common law right that lets the government protect sensitive national security information
from being disclosed as evidence in litigation. The privilege was first recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1953, in
a case later shown to have been bogus. It has been asserted since then by every American administration, Republican
and Democratic. But the Bush Administration has increased its use dramatically. It has raised the privilege in over 25%
more cases each year than previous administrations, and has sought dismissal in over 90% more cases. The privilege
has been invoked to dismiss claims of unlawful domestic surveillance, detention, torture, and misconduct by government
employees, on grounds that adjudicating them would cause unacceptable damage to national security. The proposed
new legislation "will ensure that the litigation process will not reveal state secrets, using many of the same safeguards
that have proven effective in criminal cases and in litigation under the Freedom of Information Act,"
according to Senator Kennedy's office...'
'Time to Crack Down on State Secrets Abuses'
'...Similarly, FBI translator Sibel Edmonds was forced out after she blew the whistle on irregularities and security
problems in the translations unit, including evidence of high-level corruption involving U.S. and Turkish officials.
As with Mike German, an inspector general validated her allegations, but her case remains shrouded in official
secrecy, even though she broker her own silence in a Times of London article earlier this year. Regular readers
here will also remember the case of Richard Barlow, the former CIA and Pentagon nuclear black-market expert
who was fired when he told Congress about the Reagan and first Bush administration's shady dealings with
Pakistan. Barlow sued, but the CIA and Pentagon both screamed 'state secrets' and got the case thrown out...'

never questioned the agency about the interrogation techniques and in fact ordered a second round of interrogations
specifically to ask additional questions of the same operatives, NBC News has learned. Those conclusions are the
result of an extensive NBC News analysis of the 9/11 Commission's Final Report and interviews with Commission
staffers and current and former U.S. intelligence officials. The analysis shows that much of what was reported about
the planning and execution of the terror attacks on New York and Washington was derived from the interrogations of
high-ranking al-Qaida operatives. Each had been subjected to "enhanced interrogation techniques." Some were even
subjected to waterboarding, the most controversial of the techniques, which simulates drowning...'
Former Italian President Francesco Cossiga: '9-11 Terrorist Attacks Were Run By The CIA And Mossad'

NATO auspices that carried out bombings across Europe in the 1960s, 1970s and '80s. Gladio's specialty was to carry
out what they termed 'false flag' operations - terror attacks that were blamed on their domestic and geopolitical opposition.
In March 2001, Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra stated, in sworn testimony, "You had to attack civilians, the people,
women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple
to force ... the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security."...

And We're Back Again To The Covert World Of CIA Drug-Smuggling...
'Third Cocaine Plane Surfaces And Is Tied To Web Of Government Connections
Drug War Beginning To Look Like One Giant Cover Story'
'On a fall evening in a cotton field in Nicaragua, a group of armed men placed a series of torches in a line of planters
along a makeshift runway. About half an hour later, around 9 p.m. that evening, Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, a twin-prop
Beechcraft King Air 200 touched down on that rural runway and came to a stop. The assembled men began to unload
the plane, which was packed with cocaine, while holding the sole witness to the event, a local field hand, captive...
The press reports about the Beech 200 incident just didn't smell right, given that members of a nonprofit Venezuelan
search and rescue group also obtained their own own photo of the abandoned aircraft. That photo (link here) does
show the Beech 200's tail number: N168D, which Federal Aviation Administration records indicate is registered to
a North Carolina company called Devon Holding and Leasing Inc. According to press reports and an investigation
conducted by the European Parliament into the CIA's terrorist rendition program, Devon Holding is a CIA shell
company and N168D is a tail number to a CIA aircraft...The CIA-linked tail number on the Beech 200, then, raises
some serious questions as to the ultimate destination of the cocaine onboard as well. Similar questions have been
raised about the planned destination of the nearly 4 tons of cocaine onboard the Gulfstream II jet that crashed
in
the Mexican Yucatan last fall. A CIA asset named Baruch Vega claims the Gulfstream II was part of a U.S.
government operation (the Mayan Express) that utilized a well-known Colombian narco-trafficker turned informant...
attorney Mark Conrad, a former supervisory special agent with U.S. Customs, ICE's predecessor agency, speculates
that the Mayan Express operation is not controlled by ICE at all, but is, in fact, a CIA-run operation using ICE as a
cover. He adds that the CIA has agents operating inside many federal law enforcement agencies utilizing what is
known as an 'official cover'...The Beech 200 and Gulfstream II cocaine planes, both now linked to CIA planes
and/or assets, raise the specter of this merged law enforcement/intelligence approach to the war on drugs - an
approach that tolerates or even enables drug running for the sake of some perceived higher value in the dirty
world of covert action. This curious connection is magnified further by the fact that a third cocaine aircraft also
appears to be in the mix: A DC-9 jet apprehended in Mexico in April 2006 with some 5.5 tons of cocaine onboard.
Given the evidence bubbling to the surface due to public faces of these cocaine jets, the pattern seems to be
self-evident, even if officially our government continues to deny the evidence...
Some Cautionary Observations On The 'Nuclear Secrets' Which May Be Involved...
AntiWar.Com: 'Safeguarding 'New-cue-lur' Secrets'
'...here's what Tenet - who had presided over two of the worst intelligence failures in out history - had to say in a
pre-retirement attempt to salvage something of his reputation - "First, we discovered the extent of Khan's hidden
network. We tagged the proliferators. We detected the network stretching from Pakistan to Europe to the Middle
East to Asia offering its wares to countries like North Korea and Iran. Working with our British colleagues, we
pieced together the picture of the network, revealing its subsidiaries, scientists, front companies, agents, finances,
and manufacturing plants on three continents. Our spies penetrated the network through a series of daring
operations over several years. Through this unrelenting effort, we confirmed the network was delivering such things
as illicit uranium enrichment centrifuges." Notice Tenet didn't claim that Khan was a nuclear-weapons proliferator.
Or that Khan had done anything that had resulted in nuclear-weapons proliferation...it is important in this and all
other matters pertaining to Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, DPRK, Turkey, et al that the differences between [a] plain-vanilla
nuclear materials/technologies and [b] nuclear weapons materials/technologies be kept foremost in mind. There
are entirely too many groups - not just the neocrazies - who deliberately obfuscate those differences for their own
purposes. Why? So they can bomb, bomb, bomb - bomb-bomb Iran.'
But Does The Fact That 'Nuclear Weapons Proliferation' Wasn't Specifically Mentioned By Tenet Mean That It Didn't Occur?
'Israel: Washington Backs Middle East's Nuclear Outlaw'
'..."Every civilised nation has a stake in preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction... We're determined
to confront those threats at the source", US President George Bush declared in a February 11, 1993, speech.
"We will stop these weapons from being acquired or built. We'll block them from being transferred. We'll prevent
them from ever being used. One source of these weapons is dangerous and secretive regimes that build weapons
of mass destruction to intimidate their neighbours and force their influence upon the world."...The February 11, 1993,
speech marked a new high for hypocrisy and cynicism...the most spectacular - and under-reported - example of
Washington's support for nuclear proliferation is its dealings with Israel...While Washington was not Israel's main
collaborator in its first acquisition of nuclear weapons, it made a significant contribution, which has expanded over
the years. Israel's original nuclear scientists and technicians were trained in US universities and government weapons
labs. This cooperation continues to this day. In 1955, the US supplied Israel's Nahal Sorek research reactor, which
began operation in 1960 under the Atoms for Peace program. Farr notes that there is evidence that Israel had access
to data from US nuclear tests in the 1950s and 60s. On March 7, 1993, Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported that the US
provided at least six tonnes of weapons-grade uranium under Atoms for Peace. Considering Israel's chronic shortage
of uranium in the early years of its weapons program, some of this prized material almost certainly was diverted to
Dimona. The US also supplied Israel with heavy water. According to British Sunday Times reporter Peter Hounam's
1999 book, 'Woman From Mossad: The Torment of Mordechai Vanunu', Dimona's control panels were supplied by

Is Israel Preparing For An Imminent Criminal 'Pre-Emptive' Strike On Iran?
The Internet Cable-Cutting, False Allegations, And Psychops Have Suddenly And Dramatically Increased...
'Cutting Cables, Lighting Fuses'
'A third undersea cable has been cut, effectively eliminating the Internet in the Middle East. But according to CNN
that cable outage does not extend to Israel, Lebanon and Iraq. Is it a coincidence that these three countries, who
represent the next phase of the war on terrorism, were spared in the communications blackout that is affecting the
rest of the Middle East?...The news of the multiple acts of cable sabotage are clear proof that a hostile force is
doing its best to isolate the greater Middle East region (all the way to India) from the rest of the world. With the
Internet down, it will be impossible for anyone to transmit video evidence out of the visually-embargoed zone, except
for those who have satellite uplinks, like the major news networks...The depth of these cables means that they can
only be reached by submarine or deep submersibles, means that it could not have been done by al Qaida the "toilet,"
which doesn't have a navy, or a submarine. The cable cutting had to have been the work of state terrorists. This
sabotage Friday followed on the heels of another attack on two other submarine cables, which took place Wednesday,
5 miles off the Mediterranean coast of Alexandria, Egypt. The cable cut at 05:59 GMT Friday, 34.8 miles off the coast
of Dubai, belonged to the same British FLAG network (FALCON), whose main line connecting Europe to Asia was
severed Wednesday along with SEA-ME-WE 4, a competitor's cable which served as systems back-up. Both went
through the Suez Canal on their way to India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, as well as across Egypt (land segment),
where it cut across North Africa to Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. The FALCON circuit that was taken down Friday,
circled around the Persian Gulf, picking-up the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the other Gulf States...In
addition to the escalating psyops operation that is being directed at Lebanon and Syria, Israeli leaders have
stepped-up their unending war of words being directed at Iran. PM Olmert used the celebration of "Holocaust Day"
to announce to the world (in an off-hand manner) that Israel was ready to act against Iran on its own (forcing the
US to honor Bush's commitments to defend Israel, no matter what)...According to a Washington Post interview with
Defense Minister Barak, Iran has already "gone beyond the Manhattan Project"...As if Barak's charges (if they were
true) of Iran attempting to fit existing nuclear warheads to its long-range missiles wasn't sufficient grounds for a
pre-emptive strike, Israel has recently opened another line of attempted justification for its coming aggression, by
announcing that they have evidence that Iranian rockets have been launched from Gaza into Israel...'
'Finger-Thin Cables Tie Internet Together'
'..."Most telecom companies have capacity at multiple systems, so if one goes out, they simply reroute to a different
system," said Stephan Beckert, analyst at research firm TeleGeography in Washington. "It's just that in this case,
both the main route and the backup route got cut for a lot of companies." The two cables - FLAG Europe Asia and
SEA-ME-WE 4 - were cut on the ocean floor just north of Alexandria, Egypt. By an accident of geography and global
politics, Egypt is a choke point in the global communications network, just as it is with global shipping. The reasons
are the same: The country touches both the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, which flows into the India Ocean. The
slim fiber-optic cables that carry the world's communications are much like ships, in that they're the cheapest way for
carrying things over long distances. Pulling cable overland is much more expensive and requires negotiation with
landowners and governments. So fiber-optic cables that go from Europe to India take the sea route via Egypt's Suez
Canal, just as ships do. Another Mediterranean cable makes land not far away, in Israel. But there's no cable
overland from Israel into Jordan and to the Persian Gulf, which could have provided a redundant connection
for the Gulf States and India...'
And A Reminder Of Prior U.S. Navy Preparations In The Gulf For February....
'U.S. Navy Steps Up Fuel Deliveries To Gulf Forces'
'The US military has stepped up chartering of tankers and requests for extra fuel in the US Central Command area,
which includes the Gulf, shipping and oil industry sources say. A Gulf oil industry source said the charters suggested
there would be high naval activity, possibly including a demonstration to Iran that the US Navy will protect the Strait
of Hormuz oil shipping route during tensions over Teheran's nuclear programme. The US Navy's Military Sealift Command
(MSC) has tendered for four tankers in November to move at least one million barrels of jet and ship fuel between Gulf
ports, from Asia to the Gulf and to the Diego Garcia base, tenders seen by Reuters show. It usually tenders for one or
two tankers a month to supply Gulf operations, which include missions in Iraq...Fuels specified to be moved between
Gulf ports include JP5, high flashpoint jet fuel, used to power F18 fighters aboard aircraft carriers. "They have been
very active," said a ship industry source, familiar with the MSC tender process, who asked not to be named. "Out of
the multiple charter requirements they issue, they usually do maybe one or two (tankers) a month in the Gulf...The
source in the Gulf, with 50 years of experience in the oil industry, said the charters were indicative of extra US military
requirements for fuels. "Bahrain, for example, has confirmed that there are additional volumes being requested by the
US Defense Energy Support Center, including JP5," the Gulf source said, speaking on condition of anonymity. One of
the largest commercial tanker hires is on a time-charter basis, the length of time a ship is sought, stipulating a period
of 90 days to carry a range of fuels between locations in the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The time charter, which begins
in early December and allows for multiple journeys in Gulf waters, is to carry a minimum of 310,000 barrels of jet and
marine fuel, some of it JP5. "What's most interesting is the time-charter in the Gulf. It's a big ship and here we have a
commitment for a lot of movement of fuels, backwards and forwards down to the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman,"
the Gulf source said. "This confirms there is going to be a lot of activity, possibly a serious demonstration to Iran that
the military means to protect the Hormuz Strait," he said...In February, 2007, oil industry sources told Reuters Riyadh
had raised the amount of jet fuel earmarked for the military from 1.5 million barrels last year to close to eight million in
2007. Apart from the time charter, MSC has also tendered for commercial tankers to move 235,000 barrels of marine
diesel from South Korea to Jebel Ali and Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and 310,000 barrels of JA1 jet fuel from
Bahrain to Mesaieed in Qatar. Both tankers are required in November. A separate requirement is for a tanker to move
147,000 barrels of ship fuel from Singapore to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, close to the Gulf and Arabian Sea.
MSC has ships stationed there, known as Maritime Prepositioning Squadron Two, used to support combat operations.
In the past the United States has used the British Indian Ocean territory for long-range bombing raids on Iraq and
Afghanistan. Fuel movements have provided advance clues of US intentions...'
'Iran And Bush's Crisis of Truth'
'...By now most of us are familiar with the President's feelings and rhetoric concerning Iran. They have a familiar ring.
They sound a lot like the buildup to the invasion and occupation of Iraq.Recently the Center for Public Integrity, a
non-profit investigative reporting institution, published a report: "Iraq: the War Card." The report documented 935 false
statements made by President Bush and seven top administration officials in the two years following September 11, 2001
concerning the national security threat posed by Iraq to the US The top liar was the President. He made, according to
the report, 232 false statements about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and 28 false statements about Iraq's links with
al-Qaeda. In this light we should examine carefully any statement the President makes concerning Iranian threats to
world
peace. A look at a map of the region helps put things in perspective. We see that Iran has 13 "next-door neighbors."
Seven share land borders with Iran while six countries lie directly across the Persian Gulf. Of these 13 all but five (Oman,
Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan) contain US military bases. Of these five, Oman and the US
negotiated a 10-year agreement in 2000 which gives the US access to three Omani air fields. The other four neighbors
are all recipients of US aid. Pending congressional approval, this will include President Bush's recent offer to Saudi
Arabia of a $20 billion arms package. Two of Iran's neighbors, Afghanistan and Iraq, have recently been invaded and
occupied by the US. Another neighbor, Pakistan, is a nuclear power and a US ally in the "Global War on Terror."
Another nuclear power and US ally, Israel, lies within striking distance of Iran. In the Persian Gulf, according to the
US Navy Times, the US is currently deploying an aircraft carrier strike group and two expeditionary strike groups. A
partial list of this force includes an aircraft carrier; two amphibious assault ships; three guided-missile frigates; four
guided-missile cruisers; six-guided missile destroyers; two dock landing ships; two amphibious transport dock ships;
and two fast-attack submarines (one deployed independently of any strike group). In sum, Iran is nearly encircled by
the air, land and naval forces of the world's most powerful military. Iran may not be run by saints. No country is. But
Iran has never threatened the US. Nor has Iran ever invaded another country. The Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah
Ali Khamenei, has pledged there will be no Iranian nuclear weapons, nor will Iran start a war. On the other hand,
preemptive war is now openly acknowledged to be an "option" in US political/military strategy. We demonstrated this
convincingly when we invaded Iraq -- a country which had never harmed us, was not preparing to harm us and had
never even threatened to harm us. Nevertheless we initiated a conflict which has, to date, killed at least 150,000
and created 4,000,000 refugees. Invading a country which has not threatened the invader is aggression: the "supreme
international crime," according to the Nuremberg Tribunal. Whether Iranian President Ahmadinejad, who is not the
ultimate decision maker in Iran, has threatened to "wipe Israel off the map" is open to debate. It is not open to debate,
however, that both Israel and the US have repeatedly threatened to attack Iran. Despite all this President Bush
continues to assert that Iran is a threat to world peace and the world's leading sponsor of terror...'
'Iran Warns U.S. Against Irrational Decisions'
'Iran's top military commander said his forces will retaliate against American military bases in the Persian Gulf if they are
involved in any possible future attack on Iran. Commander of the Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC)
Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari told Al-Jazeera television on Saturday that it was Iran's "natural right to respond"
if attacked by land or air, AP reported...On a recent visit to the Persian Gulf countries, US President George W Bush
branded Iran the leading state sponsor of terror, and said "all options" against Tehran remain on the table. Bush, who
finished a tour of the Middle East earlier this month called on his Arab allies to unite against Iran. But hosting officials
of the regional nations dismissed Bush's allegations, describing Tehran as a good friend of their countries. '
